Dalby Cycling Down the World Championship Track

25th Jun 2009

Top mountain bikers will be cycling into Dalby Forest as the World Mountain Bike Championships have been confirmed as being staged there next year.

The Championship, which will be broadcast worldwide, will take place at the North Yorkshire forest between 23 and 25 April 2010.

The event is expected to attract more than 10,000 spectators with both residents and guests staying at Scarborough hotels being able to watch 500 elite bikers from 24 different nations.

Tom Riordan, who is the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward, said:

“Bringing high profile events such as the World Mountain Bike Championships are a fantastic way for us to showcase our region to the world.”

Dalby Forest, a popular tourist attraction, has recently undergone redevelopment and only last month staged its first competitive race on the £90,000 new four-mile “World Cup” trail.
