Quality Coast Award for Scarborough
07th May 2009
Scarborough’s South Bay is today celebrating being one of 113 beaches nationwide to be awarded a Quality Coast Award.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of news that Scarborough’s North Bay beach has been awarded a prestigious Blue Flag award.
Keep Britain Tidy, who are responsible for the awards, have been to the countries beaches to mark the resorts on their high quality environment and facilities.
This year is officially one of the best on record for the quality of beaches in England, with most offering a great opportunity for people looking for a low-cost, stress-free way of taking a seaside break in the coming months.
Phil Barton, who is chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy who run Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards in England, said:
“Holidaying in this country is the perfect way of saving money and having a great time.”
The latest figures for the Quality Coast Awards show a rise of beaches receiving these awards from last year of almost 40% to 113.
Scarborough is in good company as Filey, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Robin Hood’s Bay and Cayton Bay have all been awarded Quality Coast Awards.
