Scarborough Seafest 2009
24th Jul 2009
This years Scarborough Seafest, which starts tonight, promises to be a year of firsts.
The event will be making history as the Historical Diving Society and Scarborough Sub-Aqua Club will be running a display of hard hat or “standard dress” diving in Scarborough harbour.
Council leader Tom Fox snd Mayor Bill Chatt will both be donning the Siebe-Gorman diver’s helmet which was made in 1882. The pair will be diving into the harbour tomorrow at 2.30pm to raise money for charity.
Councillor Chatt said:
“This dive will certainly be a challenge and most entertaining for those not taking part as the dives will be filmed underwater.”
The money raised through doing the dive will go towards the Mayoress’ Community Fund, which helps local businesses in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby and the Alzheimer’s Society.
The three-day Scarborough Seafest runs until Sunday, giving residents and guests staying at Scarborough hotels plenty of time to see the coastal town during the festival weekend.
